Locative Media

For the Locative Media Project, I chose to create a video in which the audio plays over a variety of images that are representative of the locations through which the audience would theoretically travel.  I then included a variety of audio clips that signaled beginnings, endings, and a slight change in mood combined with two voiceovers.  The intention behind my decisions here was to juxtapose the city and the rural plains outside of Boulder.  Further, I included two readings from True Grit, a novel that takes place in a much more untamed and wild landscape and time frame.  In using these readings, my intention was that the words I was reading would feel largely out of place in Downtown Boulder and conversely feel very in place in the rural high plains.

Through the general concept of this project emerges a unique relationship between space and media.  As this course has progressed, I have developed an understanding that over time, space and media have become more and more intertwined.  This is not only the case through our constantly increasing use of cell phones and other handheld technology, but it is also made clear through the increasing presence of media that is truly enveloped in our actual world such as augmented reality.  I personally find that this progression has a likelihood to veer toward a dangerous space in the event that we allow technology to develop faster than our society is able to learn to manage it.
