Metaphor of Self

Found Footage

In working on the Metaphor of Self project, I found the production of this piece to be particularly enjoyable because of the free-range ability to use my own voice and rhetoric throughout the entire project.  From the ability to use both found footage and self-shot footage to the relatively open ended prompt, this project was an extremely enjoyable way for me to describe myself in the exact way that I wanted.

I did find the Found Footage video to be quite enjoyable to create as well, particularly because it was my first experience creating something of this nature, but I also noticed that it was slightly limiting to create a video that I did not shoot.   As I reflect now, I feel that I was ultimately able to be very creative in what the final product presented, but in the actual editing process, it was slightly frustrating to be bound strictly to footage that I did not produce.  All the same, this was a great experience and a very enjoyable challenge that opened my eyes to what it likely feels like to be a film editor who is placed in a similar situation.

Furthermore, the production processes between these two projects, for me at least, differed greatly.  With the Metaphor of Self project, I found myself spending much more time considering both what aspect of myself I wanted to depict and also how I wanted to depict this.  In my experience, this production ultimately required a great deal more creativity and critical thinking.  On the other hand, my idea for the Found Footage project came almost immediately, and as such, I spent significantly more time in the actual cutting and timing process for this video.  All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed creating both of these videos and highly valued the different skill sets that they allowed me to practice and improve.
